OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Version 10/11
MEASURING STICK fOR ELECTRIC CONDUCTION
Item No. 10 11 38
Item No. 10 11 39
Resolution: 10 µS/cm LWT-03
Resolution: 1 µS/cm LWT-02
INTENDED USE
1.
The measuring stick makes it possible to measure how electrically conductive a fluid is. The quantity for this is
the conductance, which is stated in µS/cm (micro-Siemens per centimeter). The application area ranges from the
domestic area through aquaria, (fish) ponds, swimming pools, photo laboratories, schools through to garden centers
and so on. An application in the industrial areas (e. g. galvanisation technology) or in liquids that are live, is not
permitted. An automatic temperature adjustment (ATC) provides stable readings also for different temperatures.
The device allows the reading of the conductance from 0 to 19990 µS/cm (item no. 101138) or
from 0 to 1999 µS/cm (item no. 101139) of dead-voltage, non-combustible or non-corrosive liquids. Operation
under adverse ambient conditions is not permitted. Adverse ambient conditions are wetness or excessively high
humidity, dust and flammable gases, vapours or solvents. The product is powered by two CR2032 batteries.
This product fulfils European and national requirements related to electromagnetic compatibility (EMC).
CE conformity has been verified and the relevant statements and documents have been deposited at
the manufacturer.
Unauthorised conversion and/or modification of the device are inadmissible because of safety and approval
reasons (CE). Any usage other than described above is not permitted and can damage the product and lead to
associated risks such as short-circuit, fire, electric shock, etc. Please read the operating instructions thoroughly
and keep them for further reference.

We do not assume liability for resulting damages to property or personal injury if the
product has been abused in any way or damaged by improper use or failure to observe
these operating instructions. The warranty/ guarantee will then expire!
The icon with exclamation mark indicates important information in the operating
instructions. Carefully read the whole operating instructions before operating the device,
otherwise there is risk of danger.
Persons / Product
The product is not a toy and should be kept out of reach of children!
•
When used in conjunction with other devices, observe the operating instructions and safety notices of
•
connected devices.
The product must not be subjected to heavy mechanical stress.
•
The product must not be exposed it to extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, intense vibration, or dampness.
•
Check the measuring electrode for damage before each measuring operation!
•
On industrial sites, the accident prevention regulations of the association of the industrial workers’ societies
•
for electrical equipment and utilities must be followed.
Be careful when handling flammable or caustic liquids. In that case, wear safety gloves, goggles and an
•
apron. Only measure in well-ventilated environments.
Only immerse the sensor head in the voltageless liquids!
•
If there is any reason to believe that safe operation has become impossible, turn the device off and secure it
•
against any unintentional operation. It can be assumed that safe operation is no longer possible if:
the device shows visible damage,
-
the device no longer functions and
-
after being stored under unfavourable conditions for a long period of time or
-
it has been subjected to considerable stress in transit
-
Never switch the device on immediately after taking it from the cold into a warm environment. Condensation
•
that forms might destroy your device. Allow the device to reach room temperature before switching it on.
Batteries
Correct polarity must be observed while inserting the batteries.
•
Batteries should be removed from the device if it is not used for a long period of time to avoid damage
•
through leaking. Leaking or damaged batteries might cause acid burns when in contact with skin, therefore
use suitable protective gloves to handle corrupted batteries.
Batteries must be kept out of reach of children. Do not leave the battery lying around, as there is risk, that
•
children or pets swallow it.
All the batteries should be replaced at the same time. Mixing old and new batteries in the device can lead
•
to battery leakage and device damage.
Batteries must not be dismantled, short-circuited or thrown into fire. Never recharge non-rechargeable
•
batteries. There is a risk of explosion!
Miscellaneous
Repair works must only be carried out by a specialist/ specialist workshop.
•
If you have queries about handling the device, that are not answered in this operating instruction, our

COMMISSIONING
4.
Do not touch or wipe the surface of the inner sensor of the electrode.
Remove the protection cap and rinse the electrode with clean water. Then, wipe it dry.
1.
Open the battery compartment at the top and take out the screw driver.
2.
Press the on/off button to turn it on.
3.
CALIBRATION
5.
Rinse the conductivity electrode with distilled or deionised water (also before and after every use/measuring)
1.
and rub it dry. Dip the conductivity electrode into the standard solution (1413 μS/cm), included in delivery,
stir it briefly and wait until the display has stabilised (up to 5 minutes). Adjust the reading to 1413 at 25 ºC by
turning the control marked “SPAN” located at the left side of the battery compartment with the screwdriver.
Rinse the electrode with clean water and wipe it dry.
2.
It is not necessary to calibrate the LWT-02 / LWT-03 before each measurement.
It is recommended to carry out a calibration after every tenth measurement or every two weeks.
MEASURING
6.
Dip the electrode into the sample solution.
1.
Stir gently and wait until a stable reading is obtained.
2.
Rinse the electrode with clean water and cover it with the protective cap after use.
3.
REPLACING BATTERy
7.
Change batteries when the display fades or flashes.
1.
Screw in an anti-clockwise direction to open the battery compartment at the top.
2.
Replace the CR2032 battery, observing the correct polarity.
3.
Close the battery compartment.
4.
REPLACING ELECTRODE
8.
Remove the protective cap.
1.
Screw the electrode collar in an anti-clockwise direction to remove it.
2.
Pull out the electrode module carefully. Do not damage the pins on the body.
3.
Plug a new electrode into the body carefully.
4.
Screw the electrode collar in a clockwise direction to fasten it.
5.
