3.3 Headphones connection
It is also possible to connect headphones to the FMS 2500 and listen to music via the
headphones. To do so, simply use commercially available headphones with a 3.5 mm jack.
Connect this jack to the audio output (B7), then the speakers will go silent. You can now
listen to music via the headphones. If you wish to continue listening via the speakers
again, disconnect the headphones plug from the audio output (B7) and the loudspeakers
will come back on.
When headphones are connected you can also adjust the volume using the volume
control (B5).
3.4 Inserting and replacing batteries
If you want to insert batteries or discover that the batteries are empty and need replacing,
proceed as described below.
When using batteries you require commercially available AAA cells. When operating with
batteries and the AC adapter plug at the same time the AC adapter plug is used and
battery power supply is automatically cut off.
1. Switch off the speaker system (B1).
2. Open the battery compartment (B4) by carefully removing the battery compartment
cover (B3).
3. Now replace the batteries or insert new batteries. Remember to observe the polarity
markings on the bottom of the battery compartment. You can power the speaker
system using commercially available 1.5 Volt AAA batteries.
4. Finally, slide the battery compartment cover (B3) back over the battery compartment (B4).
4 Range
In view of the physical diffusion characteristics of radio waves, you must determine the
range of the device in your surroundings by trial and error. In optimal conditions, the range
is up to 100 metres. However, the actual range depends very much on local conditions,
e.g. location of the transmitter, type of building or atmospheric conditions.
The spreading of radio waves can be physically influenced only to a slight degree, with
the result that there are places in the house or garden where radio contact does not take
place although the "transmitter" and the "receiver" are only a few metres apart (as the
crow flies). Due to the numerous factors influencing FM products it is not possible to give
a "range guarantee". However, you should be able to move around freely within the
house/apartment.
5 Trouble-shooting
If your FMS 2500 should not function properly, please proceed as follows:
Using the following table of malfunctions, try to find and correct the fault.
1. Read the corresponding section in these instructions carefully.

Look on the Internet at www.vivanco.com to see whether the fault and its correction
are described in Services or FAQs.
3. Ask your dealer.

No sound Check whether the speaker system is switched on.
The power-on indicator (B2) must be lit.
Check whether the transmitter is switched on. The

and the condition and polarity of the batteries.
If you have changed the channel on the transmitter
(channel selection switch (A2), you must then set the
transmitter on the speaker system again using the
channel selection wheel (B6).
Check whether your audio source is switched on and
also emitting a signal.
Is the transmitter connected to the audio source, see
Chapter 3 "Connections / setting up components".
Your audio source must be set to a sufficient volume.
Adjust the volume to a middle setting and test the
reception again.
If the audio device you are using has an adjustable
headphones socket this must also be turned up
sufficiently (e.g. middle setting).
Sound interference Make sure that the interference is not being caused by
your audio source or another transmitter.
Using the channel selection switch (A2), change to
another channel. Then set reception using the channel
selection wheel (B6).
In certain cases it may be necessary to alter the
position of the transmitter horizontally and/or vertically.
Do not place the transmitter directly in front of a
television set, but at a minimum distance of approx. 1 m.
One-sided sound Check whether the audio source is emitting mono
signals or whether the transmitter has been connected
to a mono output.
Transmitter switches Increase the volume at the headphones socket or the
itself off RCA output of your audio source. If the audio signals
are too weak the transmitter will otherwise switch off
automatically. See Chapter 3 "Connections / setting up
components".
