5.2.2 Mounting
In the package a
stainless steel metal
bracket is provided to
install the compass.
Loosen the knurled
knob and lift the unit,
the stem with the ca-
ble will slide through
the hole of the brack-
et. Mount the bracket
at the desired loca-
tion. Use only non-
magnetic fasteners to
secure the bracket.
The
arrow
on top of
the
com-
pass sensor
should point
to the bow of
the vessel.
5.3 Connections
For wiring diagram see chapter 7.
Connect the cable from the compass sen-
sor as shown in the diagram. If you need
to cut and rejoin the cable be sure to con-
nect colour to colour.
The electronic compass display is suitable
for both 12 and 24 Volt DC.
Connect the power supply as per dia-
gram.
See chapter 8 for the optional connec-
tions.
5.3.1 Backlight
The backlight input is an auto sense input
which means that the applied voltage is
relative to the battery voltage. If the bat-
tery voltage is 12V the backlight setting
is maximum when the applied voltage to
pin 2 is 12V. If the battery voltage is 24V
and the applied voltage to pin 2 is 12V the
brightness will be dimmed.
PIN 2
: Backlight dim input (0 to 12V or 0 to
24V, auto sense)
See chapter 8 Options.
5.3.2 NMEA0183 echo
The NMEA echo pin is used for connecting
other devices who also need the NMEA
messages from the compass sensor.
PIN 8
: NMEA0183 output, in combination
with GND pin 7
See chapter 8 Options.
5.3.3 Alarm output
The Alarm output is used for connect-
ing an external warning device such as a
buzzer. If more than 100 mA is needed a
small relay should be used.
PIN 12
: Alarm output, in combination with
the b pin
See chapter 8 Options.
