COLDSTORE Compact Quick Start Guide

Correct time-sync is essential for correct operation, depending upon the application. It is
strongly recommended that a master NTP time server system be used on the network.
Veracity’s TIMENET is an ideal device for this – see :
http://veracityglobal.com/products/networked-video-integration-devices/timenet.aspx
for full details.
Once the settings have been entered, click on Update to store the settings on COLDSTORE
Compact. For full details on how to use COLDSTORE Manager, see the online help file or the
COLDSTORE Compact User’s Guide.
M) Disk Management – Adding & Removing Disks
Further disks may be added to the array at any time, and these may be added with the system
either on or off. The new disks will be incorporated into the array automatically. No disk
configuration is required. Simply slide the disk & holder into the first empty drive slot and push
home, ensuring the holder is fully inserted and that upper tab clicks into place in the drive guide.
Removal of disks requires a simple, yet specific, procedure using COLDSTORE Manager. Please
refer to the COLDSTORE Compact User’s Guide.
To remove a disk from the array, follow the proper procedure as described in the
COLDSTORE Compact User’s Guide. Specifically, do not remove disks when COLDSTORE is
switched off. Failure to follow proper procedure will not result in data loss, but disks removed in
this way will require some manual intervention before they will be readable in DISKPLAY or other
USB docking station.
N) Powering Off
Use COLDSTORE Manager to shut down the system before removing the power connector. In
COLDSTORE Manager, select the COLDSTORE you wish to shut down, go to the Diagnostics tab,
and then click on the SHUT DOWN button at the bottom of the screen. You will be asked to
confirm.
The Compact unit will then go through a shutting-down procedure, writing any remaining data to
disk. When the shutdown process is completed, all the amber LEDs will illuminate simultaneously.
At this point the power jack may be disconnected or power switched off at the wall.
Do not remove the power jack or switch off at the wall socket before completing the
shutdown procedure via COLDSTORE Manager. This ensures that all files are correctly closed.
O) Troubleshooting
No power
The blue LED on the side panel above the power jack will illuminate when power is present. If this is
not on, check that the power jack is correctly plugged in and that there is power coming into the in-
line PSU. Check the power cable is fully inserted into the PSU. Check that the wall socket is live by
plugging another device into it.
