A. Tapping
•
Drill a hole and countersink the entrance to a
diameter slightly larger than the major diameter
of the threads.
•
Place the matching tap into the “T”-tap wrench
and secure it by twisting the handle.
•
Place the tap onto the hole and turn the wrench
clockwise 2 or 3 time while applying downward
pressure. Make sure the tap is exactly in line
with the hole.
•
Apply some oil to the tap and turn the wrench
±½ turn clockwise. Downward pressure is no
longer required.
•
Turn the wrench ¾ turn counter clockwise to
break the chips, then 1¼ turn clockwise again.
Never force the tap.
•
Repeat the previous step until the desired
thread depth is reached.
B. Using a die
•
Slightly bevel the edge of the rod to match the
inner diameter of the thread.
•
Place the matching die into the die wrench with
markings facing up (readable) and secure it with
the screw on the side of the wrench.
•
Place the die onto the rod (markings facing
down) and turn the wrench clockwise 2 or 3
time while applying downward pressure. Make
sure the die is exactly in line with the rod.
•
Apply some oil to the die and turn the wrench
±½ turn clockwise. Downward pressure is no
longer required.
•
Turn the wrench ¾ turn counter clockwise to
break the chips, then 1¼ turn clockwise again.
Never force the die.
•
Repeat the previous step until the desired
thread length is reached.
C. Measuring threads
•
Use the screw pitch gauge to determine the
pitch of internal and external threads.
