aXsGUARD Gatekeeper Security Concepts
VASCO recommends the implementation of a security policy which enforces user authentication. User
authentication should be widely implemented as more permissions (specific access) can be given at the user
level. The image below shows the optimal implementation, with the levels (system, computer, groups and
users) varying in terms of broadness of application (e.g. from everybody to a specific user) and restrictive
powers (from very restrictive to less restrictive). Restrictions are high for a large number of people, but can be
reduced for a single authenticated user.

With the Web access feature, a security policy is referred to as Access Control List (ACL).
