3-4 Pre-cut roll media printing
3-4.1 Overview
Normal procedure to make label is to print image by printer first and proceed with post-
processing work (Cutting). However, as cost for purchasing and operating post-process machine
and burden caused by additional working hour increases, printing process where pre-cut roll
media (pre-cut label) is used, gets lime light as a new method to replace existing one. In ANY-002,
we provide ‘sensor’ which can detect gap of pre-cut roll media or pre-printed black mark and
‘software setting’.
3-4.2 Error and risk factor
3-4.2.1 Occurring error
Currently, error that may occur when pre-cut roll media is printed by ANY-002 is as follows.
Firstly, error of approx. ±0.3mm which may occur due to shaking of station during print
Secondly, ±0.3mm error of roll media itself which may occur during the process of pre-cut roll
media being made.
Thirdly, error of ±0.5mm which may occur from software,
Therefore, error of pre-cut which may occur in equipment is designated as approx. 1mm in
total.
3-4.2.2 Caution
There exist several risk factors as below when using pre-cut label.
- During print, label may attach to consumables like drum, fuser and belt.
▶ ’Paper jam error’ is displayed on LCD window of printer.
▶ Label attached to consumables is to be eliminated using remover of adhesive.
▶ Printing quality may be affected even though label attached to consumables is removed.
-Adhesive flowed minutely from cut label may affect quality of print.
▶ It can be cause of contamination of drum.
3-4.3 Understanding of pre-cut roll media printing
When you print pre-cut roll media, it is very important to exactly measure size of vertical gap of
label in order to print on exact position. It is very difficult that pre-cut roll media is manufactured
without error in size of all gaps. Therefore, two methods are adopted currently in ANY-002 to
adjust this kind of error, i.e. “Full Bleed method” that image is printed larger by approx. 1mm
compared with actual label and “1M measurement method” that average error of gaps is applied
which exist in 1M pre-cut roll media. For further details, please refer to 3-4.5 as explained below.
