Safety regulations
The rooftop air-conditioning unit has been designed in accordance with
the EC guidelines and continues to be manufactured according to the
same even today. If mounted and operated according to the installation,
operating and service instructions the equipment is safe for operation.
Disregarding the evacuation and charging instructions and directions re-
sults in cancellation of liability on the part of Valeo.
In principle, the general regulations for prevention of accidents must be
followed. Other safety precautions beyond the scope of the “General
Safety Regulations” are listed in the following.
General safety regulations
Maintenance work on the air-conditioning unit must only be carried
out by trained personnel.
Servicing personnel must familiarize themselves with the operating and
service instructions concerning the equipment, tools and accessories
being used together with the safety regulations specified by the manu-
facturer for evacuation and charging air-conditioning machines.
2.1.
Handling of high-voltage air-conditioning units
Installation, maintenance and repairs may only be carried out when
the vehicle's engine is not running, the 24VDC power supply is
switched off and the high voltage is switched off.
Before starting the work at the air-conditioning unit, it is to make
voltageless and this state must be ensured for the duration of the
work.
In particular, the following safety precautions must be observed:
– switch off the power supply to the unit
– ensure it cannot be switched on again
– verify system is voltage-free
– ground and short circuit
– cover or block neighbouring parts under voltage
With electrical work may only be commenced if protective measu-
res against electric shock, short circuits and arc faults have been
performed.
2.2.
Handling the refrigerants
When working on air-conditioning units the EN 378 standard must be
followed. For every refrigerant there are safety data sheets or material
data sheets (available with the manufacturer) and the general instruc-
tions provided by the trade association of chemical industries.
For safe and appropriate use of refrigerants specific regulations are
applicable which must be adhered to:
– When working with refrigerants compulsorily wear safety glasses. If
accidentally any refrigerant fluids fall into the eyes severe damage
due to frosting may occur. Eyes must be immediately rinsed with
plenty of water and a physician must be consulted.
