3.3 Installing Vaisala USB Instrument

Driver

If you use a computer that does not have an RS

‑

232 serial port, use the USB

‑

to

‑

RS

‑

232

converter cable that is provided for a local connection to the weather station. To use the
converter cable, you must install Vaisala USB Instrument Finder.
Vaisala USB Instrument Finder is included in the documentation and software CD for the
weather station.

1. Insert the CD in your computer's CD or DVD drive.

2. If the installation program does not start automatically, start the program

USB

Instrument Driver Setup.exe

.

3. Follow the on-screen instructions.

4. When the driver installation is complete, connect the USB cable to a free USB port on

your computer.
Allow the operating system to detect the driver for the cable automatically.

5. To check which port has been assigned to the USB serial port, launch the Vaisala USB

Instrument Finder program from the

Start

menu.

3.4 Defining Number Format

The number format used in AWS Client and QML data logger depends on the number
format selected in the Windows regional settings.

When changing QML data logger parameters, for example, in sensor

calibration or setting parameters, an incorrect decimal symbol may result in errors.
Always use the decimal symbol defined in the Windows regional settings.

CAUTION!

To change the Windows regional settings and the decimal symbol, use the Windows Control
Panel. For more information, see Windows Help.

3.5 Running AWS Client in Administrator

Mode

Windows deploys User Account Control (UAC), a protection mechanism which improves
security against unauthorized or unintentional access to various system resources. As AWS
Client was not initially designed to operate with UAC, the settings on your computer may
prevent AWS Client from operating properly.
