Important Information regarding the Probe & Stainless Steel Cloak
Appendix A
Subject: Using
or
Probe Test with or without the
Cloak when testing Double Insulated
(Class 2) Appliances
.
The
SafeTcheck
(STC) Pro Logger II and Nanto have the
features
and Probe Test. This addendum
details how to best use both.
SafeTchecks
may use the unique feature
in conjunction with a Stainless Steel Cloak to test Double
Insulated Appliances.
ensures the
Device Under Test (DUT) is both correctly connected to the
SafeTcheck
and its exposed surfaces adequately covered to
reduce the chance of an erroneous test result.
The Probe Test (Firmware Version 4.46 and above) gives
the operator the ability to use either the probe, the cloak, or
a combination of both to test Double Insulated Appliances.
Unlike
the Probe Test does not look for a
completed return circuit, however it does provide adequate
time to move the probe to all appropriate points on the DUT’s
surface before the test is complete (the test maybe shortened
by pressing Reset).
In some cases the operator may find that the Probe Test
is more appropriate or convenient e.g. the size or physical
location of the DUT may make it difficult to use the cloak with
.
Always use a Probe when conducting a
live Run Test.
To switch between the Double Insulated Probe Test and
. Options, go to the Utilities Menu under the
F2 Key, scroll to the
Option using the F1/
F2 Keys and then select the required option. The selected
option will always have a small rectangle to its right. Note:
is not present during live Run Tests.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
1. Always test electrical appliances in accordance with
AS/NZS 3760.
2. Always ensure the Cloak is clean and free from dirt,
oil and corrosion.
3. Using a Stainless Steel Cloak may not prevent the user
from an electric shock.
4. We recommend the use of
in
conjunction with the Cloak for Insulation Testing of
Class 2 Double Insulated Appliances. Failure to use this
option with an incorrectly connected appliance may
result in an incorrect test result.
5.
Using the Cloak is not recommended when
conducting live Run Tests on appliances.
The
cloak may become live or caught in moving parts.
6. Ensure the Cloak is wrapped tightly around the
appliance with the return lead connected as close
as practical to exposed metal parts for minimum
resistance across the cloak and good electrical contact
with the appliance.
7. This appendix supersedes any other published
information or advice relating to the use of a Stainless
Steel Cloak.
