Smoke detector for the Lynx system
The smoke detector forms part of Lynx – our wireless alert system for people with
impaired hearing. The Lynx system uses various transmitters and receivers that alert
the user to noises such as a ringing telephone or doorbell, or the first signs of a fire.
The smoke detector always gives an acoustic warning but also has a built-in transmit-
ter that sends signals wirelessly to the receiver. One or more repeaters may also be
installed in order to amplify the sound signal and thus extend its range.
Examples of how the
signal is transmitted:
Lynx Smoke detector
(transmitter)
Lynx Repeater
(amplifier)
Lynx Tactum
(receiver)
The smoke detectors are easy to install and are available in two different models with
different characteristics. Apart from this, the models are equivalent and are used in
the same way.
SD-I: Ionic.
This model
is
recommended to be used in normal dry rooms. The tech-
nique used in this model is a continuous monitoring of electrically charged particles
in the air. In case of fire the charge of the particles will change.
SD-O: Optical
. This model
is
recommended to be used in rooms with a slightly
higher humidity, e.g. in kitchens or in immediate proximity to a bathroom. More-
over, it is especially suited to detect smoke that originate from smoulder. The tech-
nique used in this model is a measurement of the light change that appears in case of
smoke development.
Connecting battery
The smoke detector is supplied with a 9 V battery. This must be connected for the
smoke detector to work.
1. Raise the smoke detector cover. Battery is supplied separately in
the packaging or smoke detector.
2. Connect battery according to picture.
