replaced. Refer to Removing the Blades, and Installing
the Blades on page 32.

A blade that is bent or damaged could break
apart and could seriously injure or kill you or
bystanders.
•
Always replace a bent or damaged blade with a
new blade.
•
Never file or create sharp notches in the edges
or surfaces of the blade.
Warning
Removing the Blades
Hold the blade end using a rag or thickly-padded glove.
Remove the retainer bolt with its washer and spacer, and
the shear bolts and locknuts from the blade retainer
(Fig. 46).
Installing the Blades
Important
The blades are different for each side and
rotate in opposite directions forcing clippings to the center
rear of the mower. Align cutting edges properly when
installing. Sails of blades must point towards the top of
the deck.

Note:
Use anti-seize lubricant on spindle and keyway
before installing blade retainer.
1.
Install the key in the retainer and install blade retainer
to spindle (Fig. 46).
2.
Install the blade, spacer, washer, and retainer bolt to
spindle (Fig. 46).
3.
Torque the retainer bolt to 85–110 ft-lb.
Important
Blade should spin after blade bolt is
torqued. If not, check to make sure the spacer is installed
correctly.
4.
Position the blade onto the blade retainer and secure
with shear bolts and locknuts (Fig. 46).
Important
The curved part of the blade, the sail, must
be pointing upward toward the top of the mower to ensure
proper cutting.
5.
Torque blade shear bolts to
90 inch-lb
.
