Engine Maintenance
Servicing the Air Cleaner
Clean the air filter after every 50 operating hours
or every 3 months, whichever occurs first.
Replace the air filter after every 300 operating
hours or yearly, whichever occurs first.
Note:
Service the air filter more frequently if
used in dusty areas.
Removing the Foam and Paper
Elements
1. Park the machine on a level surface and
disengage the blade control switch.
2. Move the motion control levers to the brake
position, stop the engine, remove the key, and
wait for all moving parts to stop before leaving
the operating position.
3. Remove the engine hood and engine duct to
access the engine components.
4. Clean around the air cleaner to prevent dirt
from getting into the engine and causing
damage.
5. Remove the air cleaner cover knobs and the
air cleaner cover. Be careful to prevent debris
from falling into the air cleaner base opening
(Figure 31).
6. Remove the foam filter element (Figure 31).
7. Remove the paper filter element from the grid
(Figure 31).

Cleaning the Foam Element

thoroughly (Figure 32). Do not use fuel as a
cleaning solvent.

2. Dip the foam filter in clean engine oil, then
