Bone conduction is an intriguing concept that is totally
natural!
Ask your child to cover his/her ears and speak normally. The
voice travels mainly through the bones of the skull so the
child will hear the voice perfectly clear.
Explain to your child that our bones can be used to transmit
sound to our brain.
Sound contrasts and filters can also be surprising when you
first hear them.
Tell the child it’s just like when we snap our fingers to get
someone’s attention – the sound contrasts can be surprising
at first.
Listening sessions are an excellent opportunity to share a
moment with the child.
Try to schedule activities your child will enjoy such as
painting, drawing, building blocks or Lego® construction.
Some children may like this opportunity to have some
“alone time” depending on the personality of the child.
During audio vocal training, if reading aloud is not possible,
opt for activities that promote verbal communication (role
playing, babbling, singing, vocalizing, repeating).
