FloppyFlex User Manual Version 2.0 - 22 August 2022
- 32 -
How can I store raw FloppyFlex or terminated FloppyFlex assemblies?
FloppyFlex should be permanently or semi-permanently installed whenever possible. We strongly
discourage repeatedly unreeling terminated FloppyFlex assemblies. In projects where FloppyFlex is
installed into moving or touring scenery pieces, we recommend leaving those assemblies in aluminum
mounting profiles that travel with scenery.
Otherwise, Assemblies can be coiled and stored in original packaging with respect to all care and handling
procedures discussed in this User Manual. Raw, unterminated FloppyFlex can be stored on the reel in the
original shipment box. Molded assemblies can also be coiled and stored in original boxes. PVC and Silicone
FloppyFlex have a range of allowable ambient temperature storage depending on type. Check the product
Specification Sheets for more information.
Is it easier to do custom molded assemblies or terminate myself with EZ Connect?
Custom Molded assemblies are great for projects where precise dimensions are specified and will be
followed exactly. These assemblies arrive ready to install with minimal effort from workers onsite.
DIY termination with EZ Connect requires more effort from onsite workers but allows more flexibility in the
installation environment. It is a better solution for those projects where lengths are more of an estimation, or
if the installation requires a test fit before final cutting and termination.
Are pixels individually addressable?
Digital FloppyFlex products are the only individually DMX addressable versions. The process for addressing
FloppyFlex is a function of the FloppyDrive being used to send power and control data to the assembly.
While DMX starting address is user selectable, pixels are self-addressing afterwards. This means that pixels
cannot be addressed individually out of order, rather they will be addressed sequentially. Some FloppyDrive
products allow “Pixel Cloning” which makes groups of pixels behave as if they were the same.
