The Osteo-med osteoporosis orthosis is a
spine-straightening orthotic device; its functio
-
nality has been designed to reflect the latest
osteoporosis guidelines issued by the German
Association for Osteology (Dachverband für
Osteologie, DVO). These guidelines provide
doctors with information about the best possi-
ble therapies for treating osteoporosis.
Purpose
Osteo-med for women is a spinal orthosis for
actively relieving stress and correcting lumbar
and thoracic spines. The orthosis may only be
used for back treatment.
How it works
The patented air chamber pad system in the
orthosis causes the wearer to automatically
straighten his or her spine without even
being aware of doing so. This improvement in
posture is accompanied by an alleviation of
pain that is clearly tangible. The wearer feels
more secure and can become more active on
a day-to-day basis. The orthosis is worn over
underwear (bra, pants, no vest) and can be
worn all day if needed.
Indications
Osteoporosis, humpback, pain therapy. For
spines that can still straighten and symptoms
that have already become evident, to avoid
subsequent damage. May be used selectively
for spinal fractures/deformations.
Contraindications
Large-scale skin injuries or diseases, extensive
haematoma and severe swellings.
Side effects
To date, no side effects have been registered
during proper use.
Inserting the air chamber pads
Upper (vertebral) air chamber pads (
A
):
Turn the Osteo-med orthosis inside out and
insert the two long air chamber pads (
A
) with
the help of the insertion rod (
C
) into the two
pockets of the orthosis (
1
). To do this, insert
the tip of the rod in the hole of the pad. The
straight side of the pad must run parallel to
the spine on both sides (
A
). Once you have in
-
serted the air chamber pad in the pocket, hold
it firmly at the base and remove the insertion
rod.
Lower (lumbar) air-cushion pad (
B
):
Pull the fleece strips out of the pocket.
Fasten the pad with the Velcro straps
(
2
), fold it together and insert into the
pocket (
3
), then unfold again and smooth out.
Putting on the Osteo-med
Put the Osteo-med orthosis on as you
would a shirt, by pulling it over your head,
or as you would a swimsuit, by pulling it up.
Open all the necessary fastenings: If pulling
the orthosis on over your legs, leave the
gusset closed; if pulling it on over your head,
leave the shoulder fastenings closed. Fold the
Velcro surfaces on the side belts to the in-
side for protection (
4
). Pull on the Osteo-med
and close the zip fastener, gusset or shoulder
straps. Finally, use light to medium pressure
to fasten the Velcro straps on the side
support belts to apply pressure to the lower
air chamber (
5
). The shoulders and gusset can
be adjusted to the required body length.
