1. USE 

 

Wall-mounted  condensing  boilers  THERM  17  KD  are  modern  gas  appliances  suitable  for  heating  of 

buildings  of  a  maximum  heat  loss  of  17 kW  and  with  forced  venting  (they  do  not  require  a  flue).  They  are 
constructed as appliances utilizing water vapour condensation in the combustion process and they are characterized 
by  a  high  performance  and  minimal  atmospheric  emissions.  This  means  that  their  operation  is  economical  and 
environmentally-friendly.  The  boiler  output  is  fluently  regulated  within  the  range  of  20  –  100 %  and  it  adapts 
automatically to the building requirements.

Individual versions of the THERM 17 KD boilers have the following structural design: 

 

THERM  17  KD 

–  boiler  modification  used  only  for  heating  systems  (control  circuits  enabling  external 

connection of an intercepting valve for hot service water (HSW) tank heating are preserved). 

 

THERM 17 KDZ

 – for heating systems and for external HSW tanks equipped with output modulation in both 

modes. 
 

THERM 17 KDZ 5

 – for heating systems and for integrated stainless 55l HSW tanks with output modulation in 

both modes. 
 
All boilers are fitted with a 7l expansion vessel. The 17 KDZ 5 version is additionally fitted with a 2l expansion 

vessel in the HSW circuit. 

 
 

Warning:

 In order to ensure correct function of the boiler, minimum water pressure in the heating system must 

not drop below 0.8 bar (measured in the cold state). If a boiler is connected to a system with an open expansion 
vessel, it must be placed at least 8 m above the boiler. 

 

Warning: 

In  case  the  ambient  air  temperature  drops  below  the  freezing  point  in  boiler  which  is  turned  off,  the 

HSW tank of the 17 KDZ boiler version must be discharged! 

 
 

2. GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THERM 17 KD SERIES BOILERS 

 

THERM 17 KD gas boiler is composed of a carry frame to which all operational components of the boiler 

are attached. 
 

Giannoni  compact  condensing  body  which  conjugates  the  combustion  chamber  and  burner  with  the  two-

chamber stainless heat exchanger is located in the upper part of the boiler. The condensing body cover comprises 
an external thermoplastic envelope reinforced with a stainless inner wall which considerably reduces penetration of 
heat  into  the  surrounding  environment. 

Heat-exchanging  surfaces  of  the  heat  exchanger  are  constituted  by 

round  pipe  walls  which  need  to  be  protected  from  clogging  by  impurities  from  the  heating  system.

  The 

heating  system  must  be  therefore  fitted  with  a  filter  at  the  recuperative  water  inlet  into  the  boiler.  The  collector 
located at the heating water outlet from the body is fitted with a bleeding valve. The removable front wall of the 
body is fitted with two electrodes (igniter and ionization electrodes), flash pipe and worked piping for the gas and 
air mixture feed. 

 

A  suitable  ratio  of  gas  and  air  in  the  mixture  and  their  intermixing  is  ensured  by  a  mixer  together  with  a 

special  gas  fitting.  The  fitting  is  composed  of  a  gas  pressure  regulator,  two  solenoid  blocking  valves  and  a  ratio 
control of the outlet gas quantity which can be partly set manually as well. The ratio control concurrence can be set 
only  with  a  special  equipment.  The  entire  system  operates  as  follows:  The  amount  of  the  added  gas  is  directly 
proportionate to the amount of air flowing through the mixer supplied by the ventilator. It can be thus stated that 
the boiler output depends on the amount of flowing air for combustion. 

 

Ventilator speed can be therefore continuously electronically controlled over a wide range which results in a 

high output range of the boiler. Air is fed into the boiler through the worked piping from the connecting set. 

 

The  condensed  water  drains  from  the  condensing  body  and  the  venting  and  air  feed  pipes  are  led  into  a 

syphon from which the condensate is conducted outside the boiler.
