MOWER OPERATION

MAKING THE MOST OF YOUR MOWER

1

When Using your mower for the first time,
choose a smooth level area and cut in straight
and slightly overlapping strips.

2.

The size and type of the area to be mowed will
determine the proper mowing pattern. Take
into account obstruction, such as trees, fences
and buildings. To keep grass cuttings off
fences, sidewalks, etc., it is advisable to go
around the outside of the area to be mowed
several times in a clockwise direction. To mow
the area remaining, work in a
counterclockwise direction so the cuttings are
dispersed onto the previously cut area.

3.

Always keep the left side “Trimming side” of
the mower toward trees, posts or other
obstacles on the first trip around the obstacle.

4.

Most lawns should be mowed to keep the
grass approximately 2 to 3 in. (51 -76mm)
high. Best results are obtained by cutting often
and not too short. To keep a green lawn,
never mow more than one third off the height
of the grass or a maximum of 1 in. (25mm) in
one mowing. For extremely tall grass, set the
cutting height at maximum for the first mowing,
then reset to the desired height and mow
again. Allow the grass to grow to three inches,
then cut off only the top inch.

5.

On thick or springy grass or soft ground, the
mower rollers may sink into the ground giving
too low a cut. Readjust the cutting height to
obtain the desired height of cut.

6.

For best appearance, grass should be cut only
when it is free of moisture.

WARNING: Some illustrations in the
manual show the mower with safety
shields removed to provide a better
view. The mower should never be
operated with any safety shielding
removed.

CUTTING HEIGHTS

WARNING: To avoid injury do not
operate the mower in the transport
position.

This mower can be adjusted to cut from 1  1/2" to
4 1/4" high. Cutting heights should be determined by
cutting conditions and personal preference. The
following recommendations will provide a guide for
height selection.

Lawns ....................................... 1 1/2" - 2 3/4"
Field Cutting ............................. 2 3/4" - 41/4"

To change from one cutting height to another it is
necessary to adjust the gauge wheel and rear roller
as following

1.

Start the engine and pull the lift control lever
rearward.

2.

Stop the engine, remove the key and lock the
parking brake.

3.

After determining the cutting height, as shown
in  Figure 4,  remove the pin securing the
gauge wheels and reinstall the pin in the
desired position.

4.

Change the latch position which mounts the
rear roller, if necessary.

5.

Make sure that the gauge wheels and rear
roller are secured.

6.

Lower the mower deck with the lift control
lever pushed forward.

7.

lf desired, the mower can be carried with
minimum weight on the gauge wheels by
lowering the mower so that gauge wheels are
1/4 inch from the ground. Set the stop on the
tractor lift
