Process types
1. Type I
This mode is for the standard processing of most cables. It offers a speedy, reliable method for
processing cables.
2. Type II
This mode is specially designed for cables designed for cables with difficulty removing the foil layer
over the braid. The foil layer must be removed before braid can be flared. If the foil is tightly wound
around end of cable, flare will not be possible, braid removal will not be possible, and cable
damage will result. Type II mode makes a deeper cut through the foil to fully remove the foil layer
near end of cable. Note that some foil may remain, but as long as it is not in the flare area it will not
affect further processing and can be removed by hand.
Adjusting an article
Adjusting an article may be required to change cut lengths, cutting diameters, or if braid strands are not
completely removed.
To adjust an article, select the radio button for “Setup Mode.” You can adjust the
length and depth of cut for the highlighted layer (on the left side of the screen)
. Switch to “Production
Mode”
. In this mode, all changes are continuously saved. No save confirmation will be required to save
the changes and run the article (see Figure 35).
NOTE
When tooling is changed, an article adjustment/verification will need to be performed to ensure the parameters have not
changed to continue with the production run of the article. Verification is automatic and status is displayed on the production
screen (see figure 30).
Article Strip Length
The dimensions for each layer of the cable strip length are shown with each line in the article process
view and are measure from the tip of the cable. The step of the process can be selected and the
dimension entered on the right side of the screen. If the strip lengths are not possible to run, for example
an inner layer has a larger dimension than the layer above it, an error will appear on the screen. It is
recommended to work from the outside of the cable to the center of the cable when entering values for the
strip length.
Cable to article relationship
1. The cable builder screen allows you to input and store the dimensions of an individual cable part
number. A cable then becomes a standard, static, set of information that cannot be modified or
changed.
2. An article is also set of information, but includes the process type, the cable selection from drop-down
menus, and the user input strip lengths and adjustments. The strip lengths can be added by selecting
the action in the process and updating the value in the text box during setup mode.
NOTE
The HV-CP is loaded with default cables and articles. It is possible to not have to create custom cables and articles.
NOTE
Because an article is the combination of a cable and user-input process parameters, it is ideal to create unique articles for
each variety of product you want to make. Examples would be strip lengths or cable sizes.
3. The HV-CP has been programmed to handle cables and articles in a specific way. They are as follows:
a. When a cable has been used in a saved article, that cable cannot be edited.
b. When a different cable is assigned to an article, all article settings are deleted. Thus, that data will
need to be re-entered.
c. When you go to the cable builder screen from the production screen, it will show the cable from
that article.
