Reducing the cardan length
If required, cut the male and female parts in equal pieces as well as the protective
covers. Before cutting the cardan shaft, check all the possibilities for using it without
reducing its length.
Length adjustment must be made when the distance between the equipment and
tractor do not allow coupling. If that happens, proceed as follows:
• First of all, remove the protective covers.
• Cut the tube and solid bar (male and female) to the
desired measures. In order to do that, half of the cardan
shaft should be coupled to the tractor and the other half to
the equipment, placing the semi cardan shafts paralleled
and in several operating positions. Then, determine the
correct length and mark up the cutting zone.
• Remove the burrs left by the cutting operation and
also shavings left by burring using a file and then lubricate
the male part with a thin layer of grease.
• Reduce the length of the two plastic covers, using the
cut piece of bar as a reference and clean the cutting debris.
• Then, assemble the cardan shaft according to the
assembling instructions on the following page.
NOTE
It is required to finish the cut parts. In order to do so, use a file. Then,
remove the filings and lubricate the male part with a thin layer of grease.
The contact surface between the tube and the bar shall never be less than
1/3 of the cardan shaft total length.
• Whenever you change tractors, recheck the length of the cardan shaft.
• The protective cover chains should be fixed to the equipment and to the tractor so
that the protection covers do not loosen during maneuvers.
