Shift Lock System
For your safety, the automatic trans-mis-
sion has a shift lock system which pre-
vents shifting the transmission from P
(Park) into R (Reverse) unless the brake
pedal is depressed.
To shift the transmission from P (Park) into
R (Reverse):
Press and hold the brake pedal. 1.
Start the engine or turn the ignition 2.
switch to the ON position.
Move the shift lever to R mode. 3.
Key Interlock System for AT
For Mechanical Lockset 1.
Shift the GSL to P position and then switch
OFF Ignition and take out the key.
For PEPS 2.
Shift GSL to P position and then only Igni-
tion will be switched else vehicle will move
to accessory on till GSL is moved to P po-
sition.
NOTE
If the brake pedal is repeatedly de-
pressed and released with the shift
lever in the P (Park) position, noise may
be heard. This is a normal condition.
NOTE
If the Brake pedal is repeatedly de-
pressed and released slowly with the
shift Lever in R (Reverse) position,
noise may be heard. This is a normal
condition.
WARNING
Always depress the brake pedal fully,
before and while shifting out of the P
(Park) mode into another position. This
is to avoid unintended motion of the ve-
hicle which could injure the passengers
inside or around the vehicle.
NOTE
Good Driving Practices (AT)
Never move the shift lever from P •
(Park) or N (Neutral) to any other
position with the accelerator pedal
depressed.
Never move the shift lever into P •
(Park) when the vehicle is in motion.
Be ensure the vehicle is completely •
stopped before shifting into R (Re-
verse) or D (Drive).
Always use the parking brake. Do •
not depend on placing the transmis-
sion in P (Park) to keep the vehicle
from moving.
Optimum vehicle performance and •
fuel economy is obtained by
smoothly depressing and re-leasing
the accelerator pedal.
