TASCAM HS-8
You can control this unit using an IBM-PC-compatible
keyboard with a PS/2 interface by connecting it to the
KEYBOARD connector on the front panel of this unit. A
variety of operations are possible, but using the keyboard
is especially efficient for inputting names.
Setting the keyboard type
Set the type according to the keyboard connected.
Change the setting as necessary on the “PREFERENCES”
page of the “SYSTEM SETUP” screen (on page 52.).
Use the keyboard to input the name
You can edit and input characters for the following
items in the same manner as inputting characters on a
computer.
Project names (“Editing the project name” on page 35.)

Folder names (“Editing the name of the first folder” on

page 36, “Creating new folders” on page 37.)
First half of the next take name (“NEXT TAKE NAME
•
button” on page 16.)
Letter in the second half of the next take name (“NEXT

TAKE NAME button” on page 16.)
Channel names (“CHx NAME (button)” on page 50.)

You can also use it to enter numbers in the following
operations.
Editing the T/C USER BITS (on page 47.),

Editing the START TIME (on page 47.),
•
Editing marks (on page 56.),

Using the manual locate function (on page 57.)
•
Editing the TC Chase offset (on page 46.)
•
Selecting the type of character to input
In the same manner as with a computer, use the Shift and
Caps Lock keys to select the type of character to input.
Inputting characters
You can use the number, letter and symbol keys to import
them directly.
Moving the cursor
Use the
/
keys.
Erasing characters
Use the Delete key to erase the character at the cursor
position.
Use the Backspace key to erase the character before the
cursor position.
Inserting characters
Input the character at the desired position.
NOTE
The following characters and punctuation marks cannot be

used in names.
\ / : ; , • ? “ < > |
Japanese katakana cannot be input.
•
The letter in the second half of the next take name can only be
•
an uppercase letter from the alphabet.
