Wiring variants

Bi-Wiring
(see Appendix A 2 )
The term bi-wiring refers to a method of connecting
loudspeakers in which separate loudspeaker cables are
used for the bass and mid-range/treble signals.
This arrangement eliminates the danger of signal colora-
tion in the mid-range / treble area caused by voltage
peaks in the bass.
Bi-wiring is only possible if the speakers are fitted with
bi-wiring terminals. It is essential that the bridging piece
between the bass and mid-range / treble channels is
removed at the speaker terminals.
As the wiring diagram shows, bi-wiring enables you to
employ the optimum cable for each frequency range.
Bi-Amping

Bi-amping refers to the use of two separate power
amplifiers. They must be extremely well matched, i. e.
amplification factors, phase response and group delay
must be absolutely identical.
The signal paths for the bass and mid-range/treble areas
are separated
before the output stage , and are passed
to the loudspeakers separately.
This mode of operation increases the power reserves of
the output stages, and this has a particularly positive
effect on the dynamic characteristics of the system. For
a given volume each individual amplifier is required to
produce less power, and this in turn reduces intermodu-
lation and harmonic distortion effects.
The result is improved resolution and more accurate
spatial imaging.
The typical wiring diagram shows the combination of
PA 1230 R / PA 1530 R integrated amplifiers and
A 1230 / A 1530 power amplifiers, which are particularly
well suited to this mode of operation. It is essential that
the bridging piece between the bass and mid-range /
treble channels is removed at the speaker terminals.
