4.4.5 Codec Function
The C300xr Codec can operate in 1 of 5 selectable modes; ISDN, X.21, X.21 with ISDN
Backup - Master Unit or Slave Unit and Dial On Audio.
Dial On Audio Mode
When operating in Dial On Audio mode, the Input audio channels are monitored continuously
for activity. On detection of a signal which is above -27 dB, the unit will automatically dial the
pre-configured ISDN number for the current patch. If the ISDN call fails to be established for
any reason, the unit will re-dial until it has successfully connected through. Similarly, if the
ISDN call is terminated, other than by the unit which initiated the call, a re-dial will be
activated automatically.
Once the ISDN call has been established the Silence Timeout period is used to determine when
the call is terminated. The Silence Timeout period can be set to a minimum of 1 minute and a
maximum of 8 minutes, in increments of 1 minute.
The ISDN call can also be manually terminated by the unit which initiated the call, using the
HANG button.
NOTE: When operating in Dial On Audio Mode the VU Meters are locked to monitor the input
audio only. The user can not change the VU Meter setting to monitor the output audio.
X.21 Mode
Please note that when operating in X.21 mode, the ISDN port will still be functional, however
the audio will not be routed through to the ISDN connector.
Backup Master / Slave Mode
In the X.21 with ISDN Backup mode, the unit at one end of the X.21 line should be configured
as a Master Unit and the other unit should be configured as a Slave Unit. This prevents both
units initiating the ISDN Backup, which can cause a call conflict. ISDN Backup is initiated
following 5 seconds of loss of synchronisation on the X.21 line. The automatic X.21 Restore
occurs following 10 seconds of error free, continuous, synchronisation on the X.21 line.
NOTE: When operating in ISDN Backup Mode, it is advised that the DCE should carry X.21
termination resistors, please contact Systembase Limited or an authorised distributor for further
information.
