Feature description

6.1.13

Binning

Binning provides a way to enhance dynamic range, but at the cost of
lower resolution. Binning combines electron charges from neighboring
pixels directly on the chip, before readout.

Binning is only used with monochrome CCD Sensors. For reducing
resolution on color sensors refer to

decimation

On CMOS sensors, binning will not affect image quality. In any case,
binning will reduce the amount of pixel data to be transferred.

Vertical Binning

Accumulates vertical pixels.

Horizontal Binning

Accumulates horizontal pixels.
