ting. Totally manual cutting is more stable and
secure (figure 32).

 WARNING: Whenever shaping without the

fence, use a template to hold with extreme
care. Totally manual cutting requires remove
the fence which reduces the protection of the
cutters.

To set totally manual cutting, follow these
steps:
1. Disconnect the shaper.
2. Remove the fence assembly.
3. Insert the starting pin  into the hole where
it snaps better so you can feed the work piece
against cutter rotation.
4. Install the cutter so it allows you to cut in
the correct direction, and adjust the height of
the spindle.
5. Install the security guard. Do not use the
shaper without the guard.
6. Use a driver to hold
as shown in figure 33
or you can use a rub-
ber handle to ensure
or guide the work
piece and protect your
hands.
7. Place the work piece against the starting pin
8. Slowly feed and pivot the work piece within
the cutter. Avoid starting the cut at the cor-
ner of the work piece because there may be
knocking. Once started cutting, the work piece
should be pulled away from the starting pin.

DESIGNS

Using designs (patterns) allows you to cut iden-
tical parts with speed or accuracy. Shape with
designs starts with uniting a prefabricated
template to the work piece, the edge of the
template runs against the rub collar on the

spindle while the cutter cuts the outline of the
template on the work piece, as shown in the
figure 34.
You can add other
features to the assem-
bly of the template
(such as pliers) to hold
the work piece or
use common security
guards for protection.

 WARNING: Designed templates should NOT

touch the cutter and the work piece, must be
securely fastened to the template. Failure to
do so may result in serious personal injury.
To shape with designs, proceed as described
below:
1. Disconnect the shaper
2. Make sure that the bolts or clamps don't
make contact with the cutter.
3. Set the rub collars assembly so that the cut
occurs under of the work piece
4. Adjust handles for control and safety
5. Use materials that run easily through the
surface of the table and the rub collars.
6. Remember to consider the diameter of the
cutter and rub collar when making a template
7. Fasten the template to the work piece so the
template doesn't slide from the work piece
8. Recheck and make sure the screws do not
make contact with the cutters.

MAINTENANCE

Regular periodic maintenance on your Shaper
will ensure its optimum performance. Make a
habit of inspecting your shaper each time you
use it. Check for the following conditions and
repair or replace when necessary:

• Loose mounting bolts.
• Worn switch.
• Worn or damaged cords and plugs.
• Damaged drive belt.
• Any other condition that could hamper the

safe operation of this machine.

TABLE & BASE
Cleaning the Shaper is relatively easy. Vacuum
excess wood chips and sawdust, and wipe off
the remaining dust with a dry cloth. If any resin
has built up, use a resin dissolving cleaner to
remove it. Protect the unpainted cast iron sur-
