Chapter 5: Chassis Setup and Maintenance
Six fans provide cooling for the chassis. These fans circulate air through the chassis
as a means of lowering the chassis internal temperature. The SC809 system fans
are hot-swappable. There is no need to power down the system when switching
fans.

Changing a System Fan
If necessary, open the chassis while the power is running to determine which

fan has failed. (Never run the server for an extended period of time with the
chassis cover open).
Remove the failed fan's power cord from the serverboard.

Lift the fan housing up and out of the chassis.
3.
Gently push the fan upwards from underneath the fan housing to remove it.
4.
Place the new fan into the vacant space in the housing while making sure

the arrows on the top of the fan (indicating air direction) point in the same
direction as the arrows on the other fans. Make sure that all four of the fan's
rubber feet are in place.
Place the fan housing back in the chassis.
6.
Reconnect the wiring.
7.
Confirm that the fan is working properly before replacing the chassis cover.
