Sun StorEdge T3+ Array Installation and Configuration Manual • April 2002

Upgrading the System Firmware

The controller firmware cannot be upgraded on an operational system. And for the
upgrade to take effect, the controller must be reset (rebooted). While the controller
reboots, the array is not available for storage.

This procedure must be done through an Ethernet connection.

The following conditions apply to this patch and firmware upgrade:

■

The patch and firmware have to be resident on the host. The software is located
on the SunSolve web site:

http://sunsolve.sun.com

■

The Sun StorEdge T3+ array must have a root password prior to attempting this
procedure.

To Install the System Firmware 2.1 Patch

This procedure uses an uploading utility (script

t3.sh

) that automatically transfers

the contents of this patch to the Sun StorEdge T3+ array. The script is only for use on
a Solaris host system.

Caution –

Before attempting to load firmware on a Sun StorEdge T3+ array, be sure

to stop all I/O activity from all attached host systems.

Note –

It is recommended that all Sun StorEdge T3+ array volumes be unmounted

on Solaris before proceeding with this patch installation.

1. Download the system firmware 2.1 patch from the SunSolve site to the Solaris

host.

Once the patch has been downloaded, transfer the contents to a temporary working
directory if necessary.
