Inter-plane and Cabane Struts
46.
Refer to the “Inter-Plane Strut Detail” on the plan set for a 1:1 part placement diagram. Fit
and bond ply parts IS1, IS2, and IS3 together over the plan to create two sets of inter-plane
struts.
Tip: As the laser makes a slightly angled cut, alternating the etch side of parts to fit etch
side up, etch side down, etch side up will typically produce a better fitting and stronger
assembly.
47.
Refer to the “Cabane Strut Detail” on the plan set for a 1:1 part placement diagram. Create
two sets of cabane struts by fitting and bonding CS1, CS2, and CS3 together.
Tip: As the laser makes a slightly angled cut, alternating the etch side of parts to fit etch
side up, etch side down, etch side up will typically produce a better fitting and stronger
assembly.
48.
Create two sets of landing gear struts by fitting and bonding together LG1 and LG2.
Tip: As the laser makes a slightly angled cut, alternating the etch side of parts to fit etch
side up, etch side down, etch side up will typically produce a better fitting and stronger
assembly.
49.
Temporarily fit the landing gear struts to the slots in F25 and F26.
DO NOT BOND.
Fit the
ply landing gear spreader LG3 to the notches in the bases of the struts. Align struts so that
they are symmetrical on either side of the fuselage, and the spreader is parallel to the
bottom of the fuselage as viewed from the front. Bond the spreader to the struts with
medium CA. Remove landing gear assembly from fuselage. Set all struts aside until final
assembly.
Head Rest
50.
Align one HR2 within the etched outline on one side of HR1. Position the remaining HR2 on
the other side of HR1, aligning it to match the position of the first HR2. Note: The bottoms
of the HR2’s will extend slightly below that of HR1. Bond by wicking thin CA around the
edges.
Now, sand the sides of the head rest to a sharp taper.
51.
Position HR3 on the front of the head rest. Note: The bottom of HR3 will extend below the
bottom of the head rest. This will allow HR3 to hook over the edge of former F12, creating
the illusion of a head rest “cushion”. Bond with thin CA. Round the top of the head rest to
match the contour of HR3.
