Wing Construction Cont.

Check fit of strip stock (turbulators) installed

on prior assembly page. Turbulators should

fit flush with inner rib R1 but stand 1/16 in.

proud of remaining outer ribs R2-R7.

Now, with wing upright and, held flat on your

work table. Bond top side turbulators at

notches where they pass through ribs R1

through R7.

Repeat for bottom side of wing assembly.

Gently bend turbulators to nest within slots of

R8 and rest against wing tip and bond.

Note:

Forward most turbulator rests against flat in

leading edge of rib R8. It may be required to

score/crack turbulators at R7.

Use a sharp knife and sanding block to cut

turbulator stock and leading edge where they

overhang wing tip. Cut and sand square to

leading edge of wing tip flowing curve of wing

tip through parts.

Repeat for top/bottom of right/left wing tip.

Cut two 12 in. lengths from remaining 1/8 x

1/4 in. balsa strip wood. Soak 12 in. strips

with glass cleaner, tape into position shown at

wing tip, and allow to dry and take shape of

bend. Once dry, bond strips centered to

leading edge of both right and left wing tip to

form wing tip lamination.

Cut overhanging strip wood from wing tip

lamination. Use a sanding block to shape

and flow turbulators into wing tip and wing tip

lamination into leading edge.

Form leading edge, progressively reduce

thickness of wing tip lamination until it

matches wing tip stock aft of spar.
