b)
Remember to secure the load when lifting in a basket suspension so that it is
mounted in a stable and balanced manner. In this type of lifting there is no
clamping action as in lifting with clamping and the sling may move from the
lifting point.
c)
When using slings in pairs, spacers must be used so that the slings hang as
vertically as possible and the weight is evenly distributed between both legs.
d)
Sling must be fastened in a manner that ensures control over the load.
e)
Make sure that the load's center of gravity is evenly distributed among the
number of slings used for a given lift.
f)
The load shall be secured with slings in such a manner that it cannot tip, sway
or fall out of the slings.
g)
Note that if multiple slings are used to lift a load, they should be the same.
h)
Shaking or swinging the load during lifting is forbidden!
i)
Perform test lifting to reduce slack and check stability and safety of the slings
used. Slack must be reduced until the sling ropes are fully tightened. If the load
tends to tip, it should be lowered and the hitch moved to a different location.
Test lifting should be repeated until the load is stable.
j)
During lifting, care should be taken not to lift the load abruptly (dynamically).
Control the movement of the load during lifting.
k)
Do not drag the sling on the floor or abrasive surfaces.
l)
Before lowering the load, prepare a place where the load can be safely
deposited.
m)
Lowering of the load should be done in a controlled manner.
n)
Be careful not to pinch the sling with the load. Do not pull the sling out from
under the load when the load is resting on the sling.
o)
Do not drop slings equipped with metal attachments from a height, as this may
cause damage to the load.
p)
If slings have come in contact with acid or alkaline solutions, immediately
remove them from service, rinse with cold water, dry naturally, and then hand
them over to a competent person for inspection. Harmless solutions of acids
and bases by evaporation may become concentrated enough to weaken the
sling.
q)
Standing under a raised load is forbidden!
r)
Personnel performing lifting operations (both with and without the load) must
be alert and immediately report any obstructions, defects, hazards, and any
irregularities.
s)
Keep hands and other body parts away from slings, loads, and lifting
equipment.
t)
Do not swing on the sling or ride on the load!
DANGER!
Never lift a load that exceeds the lifting capacity of the sling!
