7.
Reinstall the fence.
8.
Install the cutterhead guard back over the
cutterhead. Refer to
Cutterhead Guard
installa-
tion instructions on
Page 13
to make sure that
the cutterhead guard is properly installed.
9.
Re-adjust the infeed table.
With the straightedge in position, raise or lower
the outfeed table until the straightedge just
touches the cutterhead body (not the knife).
Move the straightedge to the other side to
determine if one end of the cutterhead is high-
er/lower than the first side.
—If the cutterhead is even or within 0.002" from
one side to the other, skip to
Step 6
.
—If the cutterhead is over 0.03" from one side to
the other, go to
Step 4
.
4.
Remove the spiral cutterhead and place a shim
where the bearing block rests.
Note:
Use the shims from your old cutterhead if
available. If not available, newspaper is approxi-
mately 0.003" thick and will work for shimming.
When shimming, make sure the shims follow the
curve of the bearing block seat. Improperly placed
shims or over-shimming will affect how the bear-
ing block seats, causing minor vibration and poor
work results.
5.
Repeat
Step 3
and adjust if necessary.

6.
Use the straightedge to adjust the outfeed table
even with the edge of the cutterhead knives at
TDC (
Figure 55
).
To minimize risk of cutterhead contact, the
cutterhead guard must be installed correctly so
it springs back over the cutterhead and against
the fence immediately after the cutting opera-
tion.
