Chapter 1: Introduction
1.1 System Information
Intended Use
The NAVIKNOT 600 SD Speed and Distance Measuring Equipment
(SDME) is a combined Satellite and Single-Axis Doppler Speed Log sys-
tem for the maritime navigation of vessels and must only be operated
from appropriately trained and educated personnel familiar with all
mandatory safety and operating procedures.
The NAVIKNOT 600 SD system provides satellite based and Doppler Log
based speed and distance information for the navigation of maritime
vessels by determining a vessel’s longitudinal and transverse speeds
and distance travelled over ground as well as longitudinal speed and
distance travelled through the water.
Not Intended Use
The NAVIKNOT 600 SD combined Satellite and Single-Axis Doppler
Speed Log system is not allowed to be used for the navigation of inland
water vessels and river boats.
Position, heading and rate of turn data of the satellite PCB, as part of the
NAVIKNOT 600 SD electronics unit, are to be regarded internal and must
not be used for navigation purposes. The data outputs of the satellite
PCB must not be connected to external equipment. It is not allowed
under any circumstances to use the NAVIKNOT 600 SD system as a sub-
stitute for mandatory navigation equipment such as compasses or posi-
tion receivers.
