Check belt tension by measuring belt tightness. Correct tightness results when belt
deflection along the front side of the belt is 1 cm, as a result of the pressure applied
with the index finger to the centre of the belt length (see fig. 1).
In case a belt adjustment is needed, proceed as follows (see fig. 2):
• Remove the belt cover.
• Loose the 4 screws holding the gearbox to its holding plate.
• Rotate “a” nut counter-clockwise while holding nut “b” still.
• Keeping nut “b” still, rotate the tensioning screw “c” clockwise moving the tube forward
as a consequence.
• Make sure that the maximum flexibility of each belt is not over 1 cm when tested with
one’s finger.
• Tighten nuts “a” and “b”.
• In order to avoid an early wear of the belts, make sure the upper pulley is not tilted in
any way. Proceed as follows to straighten the tube:
- Rotate nut “d” counter-clockwise and keep nut “e” still.
- Rotate screw “f” while keeping nut “e” still. Do this until the tube is straight.
- Tighten nuts “d” and “e”.
• Tighten back the for screws fixing the gearbox to its support plate.
If the belts show signs of wear or if they can’t be tightened anymore, proceed to their
replacement. Clean the pulleys from rubber residues before proceeding to the
replacement.
