Chapter 1 Getting Started
Low-cost high-performance system
An overall low-cost system is achieved by combining each component for
optimum performance, and by using a main server composed of a RAID disk
array in combination with low-cost-per-gigabyte AIT cartridges. The cache
server covers AIT cartridge accessibility and insures sufficient performance.
While the system is operating, moreover, electricity and other running costs are
kept low in comparison to systems composed entirely of disks.
High reliability and dependable retrieval
Data is duplicated and migrated to the AIT cartridges and cache server in order
of lowest frequency of use. Data stored on the main server, moreover, is backed
up to the AIT cartridges daily. These features insure a highly reliable system.
Because a majority of data is recorded on AIT cartridges, even in the event of a
complete hard disk failure, it is possible to recover your prior operating
environment almost entirely intact.
Caution
Data modified after backup operation may not be recovered. Accidentally
erased data cannot be recovered.
File sharing across a broad range of systems
Connecting via an existing LAN, the FSV-VN5 is mounted from an application
server using CIFS and NFS protocols. The ability to use these highly versatile
protocols allows the fileserver to connect to a broad range of systems.
Easy maintenance
The necessary maintenance functions for the storage system, including those for
performing backups, have been pre-installed and run automatically, thereby
eliminating the need to purchase and install separate equipment and software.
