Home Theater Operations Using OSD

Enjoying Surround Sound

You can take advantage of surround sound simply by
selecting one of the pre-programed sound fields
according to the type of program you want to play.
To obtain the best possible sound we recommend
equalizing the speaker levels of the DOLBY SUR and
THEATER sound modes before you begin (see
“Adjusting the Speaker Output Levels” on page 27).
This system is provided with four different surround
modes:

DOLBY SUR. (Dolby Pro Logic Surround) mode

Reproduces superb theater-like presence and surround
effects from video software encoded with Dolby
Surround.

Note

Some videos and laser discs may use Dolby Surround sound
even if it's not indicated on the package.

THEATER mode

Creates a theater-like environment in your living room
by adding the acoustic reflections of a theater to
decoded Dolby Surround signals.

HALL mode

Reproduce the acoustics of a rectangular concert hall.
Ideal for soft, acoustic sounds, or for giving an extra
punch to debates and press conferences.

SIMULATED mode

Creates simulated stereo sound effects from monaural
sound sources, like old movies or TV shows.

While playing a program source, click SOUND in

the main menu.

Click the  sound mode you desire according to the
descriptions above.

To listen without surround effects

Click SUR OFF.

To adjust the balance

Click L/R BALANCE L or R.
Balance settings are stored separately for each sound mode.

To mute the sound

Click 

 in the main menu.  The icon changes to 

 and

turns green. “MUTE ON” appear in the display on the
receiver and the MUTING indicator on the front panel lights
up. To turn the sound back on, click on the icon again.

To mute the sound without the on-screen display.

Press MUTING on the remote so that “MUTING”
appears in the display on the right speaker.
Press again to restore the sound.

To select sound modes without the on-screen display

Press SURROUND on the speaker repeatedly so that the
surround mode you desire appears in the display on the
speaker.

To select a suitable super woofer mode

Click SUPER WOOFER (or press SW.MODE on the
remote) repeatedly.
SUPER WOOFER 1 provides powerful bass sound
ideal for movies. SUPER WOOFER 2 is a more subtle
effect designed for music.
