Troubleshooting
Should you encounter a problem with
your system, do the following:

Make sure the power cord and
speaker cords are connected
correctly and firmly.

Find your problem in the
troubleshooting checklist below and
take the indicated corrective action.
If the problem persists after doing all of
the above, consult your nearest Sony
dealer.
General
The display starts flashing as soon as
you plug in the power cord even
though you have not turned on the
system.
• The demonstration mode started. Press
"/1
The clock or timer setting is canceled.
• The power cord is disconnected or a
power failure occurred. Redo “Setting
the clock” (page 23). If you have set the
timer, redo “Using the timer” (page 78).
“– –:– –” appears in the display.
• The clock is not set. Set the clock
(page 23).
• A power failure has occurred. Set the
clock (page 23) and timer settings
(page 78) again.
There is no sound.
• Press repeatedly (or turn
MASTER VOLUME on the unit
clockwise).
• The headphones are connected to the
PHONES jack.
• Check the speaker connections
(page 16).
• There is no audio output during
Recording Timer.
• The system is in pause mode, in Slow-
motion Play or in Lock Search. Press
H
(or
nN
on the unit) to start the
playback.
• No sound is output when transferring
music to the USB device.
• Press MUTING on the unit if
“MUTING” appears in the display.
The CLEAR button does not work.
• When the disc tray is opened, the
CLEAR button does not work.
Additional Information
When the STANDBY indicator
flashes
Immediately unplug the power cord
and check the following items.
• If your unit have a voltage selector,
is the voltage selector set to the
correct voltage?
Check the voltage for your region,
then make sure the voltage selector
is set correctly.
• Are the + and – speaker cords short-
circuited?
• Are you using the supplied
speakers?
• Is anything blocking the ventilation
holes on the rear of the unit?
After checking the above items and
fixing any problems, plug in the power
cord again and turn on the unit. If the
STANDBY indicator still flashes, or if
the cause of the problem cannot be
found even after checking all the
above items, consult your nearest
Sony dealer.
