2.5.4 Services For Short Message Control
The services provided by the module for short message control are the followings:
•
Message formatting – The module formats short messages for transmitting over the air interface.
•
Message storage – The module stores messages received over the air interface in an in-box; it queues
messages for transmission over the air interface in an out-box.
•
Default information element storage – The module stores default information elements for use in formatting
short messages.
•
Message reference assignment – The module assigns message reference numbers to new short messages
that are transmitted over the air interface.
•
Message index assignment – The module assigns message index numbers to messages received over the
air interface.
•
Privacy Management – The module supports privacy criteria.
•
Message reporting – The module reports incoming messages received over the air interface.
2.5.5 Data Functionality
CM-42 data services are based on the standard “TIA/EIA Interim Standard, Data Service Options for Wideband
Spread Spectrum Systems” (TIA/EIA/IS-707), which is designed to provide async data, fax, and packet data
transfer at various data rates. Applications, such as file transfer, Internet browser, Fax, and dial-up networking are
further running on top of these data transfer mechanisms through a CDMA wireless network.
More specifically, the following CDMA data service options are to be supported:

Table 16: CM-42 Module Data Services
Note:
Rate Set 1: (9600, 4800, 2400, 1200), over the air link rate is up to 9600 bps
Rate Set 2: (14400, 7200, 3600, 1800), over the air link rate is up to 14400 bps
Currently, packet data is only available through Quick Net Connect mechanism before any carrier network supports
actual packet data transfer.
