Simrad ES18
The Simrad ES18 is a split-beam transducer designed for fish finding and underwater
science applications. The beamwidth is 11 degrees at nominal operational frequency 18
kHz. The transducer uses 44 "tonpilz" elements organized in four separate sectors.
Due to its low frequency, the Simrad
ES18 is ideal for use with deep water
measurements. Maximum range is
approximately 7000 meters.
The transducer is normally mounted flush
with the hull plating or the bottom of a
blister. A clamping ring is used to secure
the transducer body to a mounting ring.
The mounting ring is welded into the hull
plating.
The transducer can also be flush mounted
in the same manner at the bottom of a blister or a drop keel.
The transducer cable penetrates the hull using a cable gland. This cable gland consists of
a bushing, washers, a rubber gasket and a packing nipple.

Proposals for the collection of multifrequency
acoustic data
This is the title of a scientific paper published by ICES (International Council for the
Exploration of the Sea). The authors are Rolf J. Korneliussen, Noel Diner, Egil Ona,
Laurent Berger and Paul G. Fernandes.
The paper discusses basic principles related to acoustic multifrequency data collection.
The use of several transducers of different frequencies is now common on board
research vessels and fishing vessels, so multifrequency data are often collected.
In order for these data to be combined appropriately, their physical and spatial
characteristics from each frequency should be as similar as possible. We detail the
requirements deemed necessary to collect multifrequency data in an appropriate
manner.
