System Description

8.1

Architecture

The S-DIAS EtherCAT Control Module functions as an EtherCAT slave and enables com-
munication between an EtherCAT master and selected modules of the S-DIAS control and
I/O system. Communication with up to 64 selected S-DIAS participants can be thereby
implemented.

The S-DIAS EtherCAT control module supports only S-DIAS modules with
a specific FPGA version. S-DIAS modules with an older version are not
compatible with the S-DIAS EtherCAT control module. A list of supported
modules can be found in chapter 7.2; Supported S-DIAS modules.

The following graphic illustrates the connection of the S-DIAS EtherCAT control module to
its corresponding components. The module is designed so that with each EtherCAT master
that meets the specifications is compatible and can communicate.
