Wireless Room Sensor Solution
WARNING:
Do not leave tools (such as WCIS) running for long periods connected to the WRS HMI
port. The WRS battery is discharged at a rate of 1 day (of the 5 year battery life) for
each 3 minutes of WRS HMI port use when this occurs.
Accessories
The following accessories are available:
•
Computer Cable (P/N 540-143)
– used for connecting a computer to the RJ-11 jack on the WRS.
Using an HMI, you can run WRS commands for binding the WRS to an RSX/TEC, view and change
con
fi
guration settings, and view communication and diagnostic values.
The computer cable requires a male DB9 RS-232 Serial (COM) port at the computer. If the
computer does not have this port, you will need an additional serial port adapter to connect to
the computer via USB port.
•
RTS Passkey (P/N 544-643)
– wakes up the WRS and puts display into diagnostic mode.
Diagnostic information is displayed on the LCD panel (see Figure 5).

Security
When discussing wireless communications, the issue of security frequently comes up. In general, for the
Wireless Room Sensor Solution, security is a non-issue. Although the point-to-point wireless link does
not use encryption, it would be very dif
fi
cult (if not impossible) for someone to hack into the link for the
following reasons:
•
Proprietary Communication Protocols
:
– Building Automation Communication Protocol (P1)—Without extensive knowledge of the
P1 protocol, it is not possible to extract or insert any meaningful information from or into
the wireless link.
– Wireless Communications Protocol—Without thorough knowledge of the proprietary wireless
communications protocol, it is not possible to communicate with either the WRS or RSX .
