5 Grounding
Cable
5.1 Technical Description
5.1.1. Area of Application
The grounding cable is used for protecting the load cells from unwanted currents. These
currents could be cause by e.g.:
•
as equalization currents for missing or faulty, voltage equalization lines,
•
a lightning bolt in the vicinity,
•
welding or
•
static discharge.
The grounding cable is an electrical shunt for the load cell and mounting unit. High
welding currents can damage load cells, mounting units or the electronics. Voltage spikes
from static discharge can damage the electronics.
5.1.2 Structure
The grounding cable consists of a fine-strand copper wire with a cross-section of 50 mm
2
and two eyelets, Ø 10mm.
5.2 Mounting
A permanent screw-contact is to be made for fastening the grounding cable, e.g. M10, on
the loading platform and the foundation.
