Maintenance in aggres-
sive environments
Maintenance guide for 3KA/L/M switch-disconnectors in aggressive environments
(see also maintenance guide for switchgears)
• Switch-disconnectors 3KA/L/M are usually requiring no maintenance if working in clean rooms,
which are ventilated by clean air.
• else, for example with polluntant and dusty air, we recommend regular maintenance of the con-
tavt surfaces of the fuse lyses (fuse holders), plug lyres (for busbars), fuse knifes and disconnec-
ting blades respectively depending from the local conditions and the condition of the switch
respectively, but at least yearly.
• Maintenance means cleaning and afterwards greasing.
Cleaning
• Clean the switch externally from dust with dry compressed air (< 5 bar) or hoovering air.
If necessary use as an aid a brush.
• Clean the greased fuse and plug lyres as well as the fuse knifes and disconnecting blades respec-
tively from od grease with a clean, fluff free rag, which is soaked in a soft cleaner, for example
HAKU 1025/920.
• Take als a slightly scouring cleaner as utmost action for obstinate dry grease. If doing so, pay
attention, not to damage or even destroy the very fine silver layer of the lyres and the knifes.
• Let the switches dry at least 15 minutes or dry with compressed air.
Greasing
• Apply sparingly grease with a brush on the contact surfaces.
• Only use "Shell Alvania RLQ2" (Siemens ident number 542 073).
• For very aggressive atmosphere we recommend "Barrierta GTE 403" from "Klüber" (purchase only
by the manufacturer: Mr. Robert Haimerl, tel. 049-89-7876-298, fax. 049-89-7876-565, mail
address: [email protected])
Hints
• Only use fuses and disconnecting blades respectively with silver-plated surface, also for replace-
ment!
• The rated current of the switch is valid for open assembly and the further conditions of IEC 60
947-3. Effects of other conditions have to be considered by the manufacturer of the switchgear.
A load is permissible, if the following temperatures are observed:
– An as good as new switch:
Terminal temperature: < 100 °C
Temperature of fuse lyre/knife: < 135 °C
--> If these temperatures are higher, actions have to be taken, to reduce the heating!
– Switch in use:
Terminal temperature: < 110 °C
Temperature of fuse lyre/knife: < 145 °C
--> If these temperatures are higher, the switch has to be replaced!
• If the switch-disconnector is only used occasionally and is exposed to aggressive ambient condi-
tions, we recommend switching the switch-disconnector on and off without any load once a week
to avoid the formation of oxidation/corrosion layers on the switching contact.
• It cannot be completely ruled out that grease gum can accumulate on the switch drive as a result
of pollutants and dust in the ambient air. However, this is only critical if the operating torque
exceeds the limits specified in the operating instructions (operating torques tested according to
IEC 60 947-3).
• Upon request, switch-disconnectors are also available with tinned contact surfaces for use in
particularly aggressive environments. However, their technical specifications are limited.
Read and understand these instructions before installing, operating, or maintaining the equipment.
Reliable functioning of the equipment is only ensured with certified components.
DANGER
Hazardous voltage.
Will cause death or serious injury.
Disconnect power before working
on equipment.
