Index Search
The initial parts of each recording on a tape
can be automatically recorded on the
SmartMedia card to make an index list. It is
also possible to manually add the desired
scene to the index list. You can then easily
select the playback start position from the list
display.
Creating Indices

Insert the recorded Mini DV cassette
and a SmartMedia card in the
camcorder.

Set the camcorder to Tape Playback
mode, and then rewind the tape to the
beginning.

Press the MENU/DISPLAY button until
the menu screen appears.

Turn the SET-PUSH dial (
Q
) to select
“INDEX SEARCH”, and then press the
dial (
W
) to display the index search
screen.
When the camcorder finishes creating the
indices, the auto index screen
automatically disappears.
Notes:
• Maximum of 60 indices can be created for one
tape.
• It is possible to create indices for multiple tapes
on a single SmartMedia card.
• It may not be possible to create 60 indices
depending on the available storage capacity of
the SmartMedia card.
• It may not be possible to create an index for a
short scene having a recording time of about 30
seconds or less.
Caution:
• Do not turn the power off or remove the
SmartMedia card while creating indices, as this
may result in deletion of images on the
SmartMedia card or damage to the SmartMedia
card itself.

“AUTO INDEX”, and then press the dial

).
• Fast forward search and still playback of
the tape are repeatedly performed, and
the initial parts of the scenes are
recorded on the SmartMedia card in
order.
