Lubrication

Gearboxes

NOTE:

Use SAE 80-90Gear Oil

Gear case oil should meet the following specifications:

-API Service Classifications GL-5

-Military Specification MIL-L-2105C

Consult the following chart for the oil viscosity recommendations:

IMPORTANT: Remember that the gearbox was shipped dry and should have been filled with oil.

Replace oil in gearbox after the first 50 hours of operation then yearly.

Check gearbox oil level frequently. Steady loss of oil will indicate damaged seals, which should
be replaced immediately to prevent ruining the gearbox. Gearbox oil should be maintained to the
height of the level plug located in the side of the gearbox. Use the lower of the two plugs near the gearbox
centerline as the oil level indicator.

Procedure for refilling of gearboxes:

1. Park unit on a level surface
2. Disconnect the drivelines and remove the gearbox
from the unit
3. Remove drain plug and drain out oil
4. Reinstall drain plug
4. Remove vent plug and level plug (level plug is the lower
plug near the gearbox centerline)
5. Fill the gearbox until oil runs out the level plug hole
6. Reinstall the vent plug and level plug
7. Dispose of the old oil in accordance with the local
regulations
8. Reinstall the Gearbox on the unit. Reinstall the driveline
