The baking procedure only needs to be done once, unless the product rusts again or
the patina has been destroyed during storage. The patina gets darker with use and
blackens with age. This is a sign that your product is in good use.
After cooling down, it is best to grease it again completely. This completes the ba-
king process.
Safety instructions
Caution! All parts of the cast iron products become very hot during use!
Please never let children near them and it is best to use heat-resistant gloves or an
oven mitt when working or grilling with them.
Please do not pour cold water (or other cold liquids) on your hot cast iron products,
this can cause cracks or other damage.
Never place empty cast iron products on or in the fire and leave them there for a
long time, the metal can break or bend and become damaged.
Do not use washing-up liquid or soap to clean the cast iron.
You can serve directly from the cast iron products, but never use them to store
food.
Cast iron should never be put in the dishwasher.
As cast iron is a brittle material, you should never drop it - it could crack.
Burn-in procedure
Burning in before the first use is not necessary. You can use the product immedia-
tely.
Burning-in is done for two purposes:
First, the patina creates a barrier between the moisture in the air and the metal.
This is an effective rust protection and secondly it creates a non-stick coating on the
surface of the cast iron so that no food sticks to it.
It may happen that your cast iron product starts to rust in some places. This can
happen if the patina (the protective layer) of the cast iron products has been affec-
ted. If this happens, simply follow the steps below:
You should then remove the rust with a wire brush. Then clean under warm water
with a dish brush. Then dry well.
Rub the cast iron product with sunflower or rapeseed oil, rub again with kitchen
paper and then place the product with the opening facing downwards on the grill
grate and burn in for 1-2 hours (for gas grills lid temperature 180 - 200°C) until a
black patina has formed.
Allow the product to cool slowly after baking. If necessary, apply another layer of oil
and let it burn in again. Please do not leave any oil pools on the cast iron, as the oil
will quickly go rancid here.
Please do not use fats with a low smoke point, such as olive oil. These would burn
too quickly.
Of course, baking can be done in your own kitchen in the oven. However, it is not
very advisable because this results in a very strong smoke development. Therefore,
it is a better alternative to carry out the baking process outside on the grill.
If you do prefer to use the oven for baking: Bake the cast iron product in a pre-
heated oven at 180- 190° C for approx. 1-2 hours until a beautiful black patina has
formed. After this time, please switch off the oven and allow the cast iron product to
cool slowly, the oven door can be opened a crack.
