4.1  Telescopic Cutter Boom 

The SANDVIK Tunneling Roadheader MT520 PLC cutting system with a 315 [kW] electric cutter motor is 
designed and manufactured to provide productive and reliable operation. 

Advanced gearing design ensures a long life expectancy of the drive. The assembly is designed to 
provide a maximum penetration of 1200mm.  

The cutter heads are guided by the cutter boom base, a single piece solid steel structure, and by the 
cutter telescope. Modular construction allows the cutter assembly to be mounted with either transverse or 
inline cutting equipment. 

The cutting assembly is made up of the following sub-assemblies and components:

The telescopic feature allows to sump in 1200 [mm] without the necessity to move the crawler tracks.
