Site Survey with Office DECT 8000
A site survey is required to define the number and the location of DECT base stations (DBSs)
needed to cover the area of a site adequately.
Considerations
Due to the nature of radio waves, wireless telecommunication, to a large extent, depends on the
environmental characteristics of a site.
!
The s
ignal strength of radio waves transmitted from a DBS should be measured at several
points carefully. The results can then be recorded in the form of contour lines on the site map.
!
A great deal of time and effort can be saved if simulation devices or measuring devices are
available.
!
If no measuring devices are available, the DBS and an Office
D
ECT
8000 handset can be used
to
measure the strength of radio signals.
!
All the test results should be kept safely for effective maintenance of the site.

Carefully
t
rack the movement of users to establish movement patterns.
!
T
he number of DBSs required is determined by the number of users.
!
The distance between DBSs should be at least 3m to avoid interference.
Keep the
distance be-
tween DBSs shorter the more frequently users move while in conversation.
!
Do not install a DBS where it could spoil architectural features.
!
Consider ease of maintenance when installing a DBS.

!
There should be at least one DBS with an RSSI (Receive Signal Strength Indicator) value
greater than A0 (hex) at some location within the service area for DECT users. Refer to Table 1.
