Using an external ﬂash unit
(purchased separately)

The A-TTL auto ﬂash mode can be used by using an
external ﬂash unit (SEF 20A or SEF 42A).

This user manual was prepared based on the ﬂash
model, "SEF 20A."

For more details about the external ﬂash light, see the
ﬂash user’s manual.

Installing the ﬂash

1

Install the external ﬂash after removing the

cover of hot shoe.

2

Turn on the power of external ﬂash.

• The burst mode of external ﬂash is set to

the TTL auto mode.

3

Proceed with the shooting after checking

whether the external ﬂash is fully charged.

The available ﬂash modes

The usable ﬂash mode is determined by the camera
lens or camera exposure mode in use.

Smart Flash Mode

• Adjust the amount of ﬂash light automatically

according to the exposure value of surrounding
area.

Auto

• The ﬂash is burst out automatically in the dark

place.

3

Auto + Red

• This prevents the red-eye effect that may occur at

the time of shooting.

Fill in

• The ﬂash always bursts light when taking picture.

5

Fill-in Red

• Always operates the ﬂash light, and prevents the

red-eye effect.

6

1st Curtain

• Burst the ﬂash light immediately after the opening

of shutter.

7

2nd Curtain

• Burst the ﬂash light just before the closing of shutter.

Taking a picture in a dark place

• Only the ﬂash device, manufactured for NX series

automatica ly adjust the amount of ﬂash light. To
enjoy the auto mode function, please use the ﬂash
manufactured for NX models. Although the ﬂash ﬁres
without fully charging the battery, it is recommended
to use the ﬂash after the battery is fully charged.

• When an external ﬂash unit has the ﬂash control

function, the light control value of external ﬂash is
applied when connecting to the camera.
