11 Decommissioning
The work described in this section is only to
be performed by personnel appropriately
qualified to carry out such tasks.
Risk of fatal injury due to electric shock.
Î
Before disconnecting live wires, switch
off the supply voltage at the thermostat
and protect it against unintentional re-
connection.
Risk of personal injury due to residual
process medium inside the pipeline.
While working on the thermostat or ther-
mowell, residual process medium can escape
and, depending on its properties, may lead
to personal injury, e.g. (chemical) burns.

Wear protective clothing, safety gloves
and eye protection.
Risk of burn injuries due to hot or cold
components and pipeline.
The thermowell and pipeline may become
very hot or cold. Risk of burn injuries.
Î
Allow components and pipelines to cool
down or warm up to the ambient tem -
perature.
Î
Wear protective clothing and safety
gloves.
To decommission the thermostat before
removing it, proceed as follows:
Î
Shut off the process medium.
Î
If necessary, put the plant (sections) out
of operation (see associated documenta
-
tion).
Î
Allow sufficient time for any parts that
can be touched to cool down.
Î
Disconnect the supply voltage and pro -
tect it against unintentional reconnection.
